Who we are

This is a personal blog and portfolio site run by Jani Karlsson, accessible at https://www.raatti.net.

What data we collect and why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form (name, email, website), as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on the site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These exist for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details for future comments. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, several cookies are set to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.

Cloudflare

This site uses Cloudflare for performance, security, and DNS services. Cloudflare may collect certain technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and access timestamps as part of its service. For details, see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Embedded content

Posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, code snippets) from other websites. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Comment data may be processed through an automated spam detection service.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically rather than held in a moderation queue.

For registered users, we store the personal information provided in the user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Site administrators can also view and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
